Solitaire (Klondike) is a single-player card game that you can set up and play using one standard 52-card deck. The goal is to move all cards to the four foundation piles (one per suit), building each from Ace up to King.
Setup
Shuffle the deck thoroughly. Deal seven tableau piles left to right: the first pile gets one card, the second gets two cards, and so on until the seventh pile has seven cards. Turn the top card of each tableau pile face up; the rest remain face down. Place the remaining cards face down as the stock, and leave space for a waste pile and four foundation piles.
Basic rules
Tableau piles are built down by alternating colors (for example, red 9 on black 10). Only a King (or a pile headed by a King) may be moved into an empty tableau space. Foundations are built up by suit from Ace to King (Ace, 2. 3 ... King).
Play sequence
Turn cards from the stock to the waste (one or three at a time depending on your chosen variation). The top card of the waste may be played to a tableau or foundation if it fits. You may move face-up cards and any cards stacked on them between tableau piles following the down-alternating rule. When a face-down card in a tableau becomes exposed, turn it face up.
Moving to foundations
Whenever an Ace becomes available, move it to an empty foundation. Continue adding cards of the same suit in ascending order. Prioritize moves that free face-down cards on the tableau and moves that allow you to build towards complete foundations.
Winning and strategy
You win when all cards are on the four foundations. Useful tips: always reveal face-down tableau cards when possible; avoid moving cards to the foundation prematurely if doing so blocks useful moves in the tableau; create empty tableau spaces to place Kings or long sequences; and use the waste/stock carefully to maximize available plays. Patience and thinking several moves ahead increase your chances of winning.
