Introduction to Rummy
Rummy is a classic card game that combines strategy, skill, and a bit of luck. The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards (plus jokers, depending on the variant) and can be enjoyed by 2 to 6 players. The objective is to form valid sets and sequences by drawing and discarding cards. Rummy is popular worldwide, with variations like Gin Rummy, Indian Rummy, and Rummy 500, each with slightly different rules.
How to Play Rummy (Basic Rules)
Dealing the Cards
Each player is dealt a certain number of cards (usually 13 in Indian Rummy, 10 in Gin Rummy).
The remaining cards form the draw pile, and the top card is placed face-up to start the discard pile.
Objective
Players must arrange their cards into valid sets (3 or 4 cards of the same rank, e.g., 7♥ 7♣ 7♦) and sequences (3+ consecutive cards of the same suit, e.g., 5♠ 6♠ 7♠).
A pure sequence (no jokers) is mandatory in some variants.
Gameplay
On their turn, a player must:
Draw a card from either the draw pile or the discard pile.
Discard one card to the discard pile.
Players can also meld (declare) their sets/sequences when they meet the winning conditions.
Winning
The first player to form valid sets/sequences (with at least two sequences, one being pure) can declare and win the round.
The losing players get penalty points based on their remaining unmatched cards.
Variations
Gin Rummy: Played with 10 cards; players aim to form melds and "knock" to end the round.
Indian Rummy: Requires two sequences (one pure) and allows jokers as wild cards.
Rummy 500: Players score points based on melded cards, and the first to 500 wins.
