What is Shagun Rummy?
Shagun Rummy is a popular variation of the classic Indian Rummy game, often played with 2 to 6 players. It follows the same basic rules as traditional rummy but includes special bonuses or "Shagun" rewards for certain achievements, such as forming a pure sequence early or winning with a high-value hand. How to Play Shagun Rummy?
Objective:
Arrange all 13 cards into valid sets (groups of same-rank cards) and sequences (consecutive cards of the same suit) before your opponents.
Gameplay Rules:
Dealing: Each player gets 13 cards; the remaining cards form the closed deck, and one card is placed face-up as the open deck.
Turns: On their turn, a player must draw a card (from the open or closed deck) and discard one to the open pile.
Valid Sets & Sequences:
Pure Sequence: 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 4♥-5♥-6♥) without a joker.
Impure Sequence: 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit with a joker (e.g., 7♠-Joker-9♠).
Set: 3-4 cards of the same rank but different suits (e.g., K♣-K♦-K♠).
Shagun Bonus: Some versions reward players for special moves, like declaring with a pure sequence first or winning in fewer turns.
Declaring: Once a player forms at least two sequences (one pure) and all other cards into valid sets/sequences, they can declare and win the round.
Winning:
The first player to declare wins the game, while others get penalty points based on their ungrouped cards.
