Spite and Malice is a competitive card game where the main objective is to be the first player to clear your personal goal pile by playing cards into shared build piles in ascending order from Ace to Queen. Each player starts with a goal pile, a hand, and a discard stack, and gameplay revolves around strategic hand management and blocking opponents.
The game uses a standard 52-card deck (or multiple decks for more players). Players draw up to a fixed hand size and take turns playing valid cards onto center stacks. Wild cards (usually Jokers, depending on variation) can substitute for any rank, adding flexibility and unpredictability.
A key mechanic is the goal pile: only the top card of this pile can be played, and players must constantly work to uncover and eliminate these cards. Once a player empties their goal pile, they win the game.
Strategy is essential because players can also discard to private discard piles and choose which cards to draw from, often delaying opponents or forcing inefficient moves.

Unlike many casual card games, Spite and Malice rewards long-term planning, probability tracking, and tactical disruption of opponents’ progress, making it both competitive and highly replayable.
