POSITION BEFORE SPEED
Practical Ludo Strategy for Better Decisions
Turn a random roll into a thoughtful move by comparing safety, pressure and future options.
Build options early
One pawn far ahead looks impressive, but two active pawns create more legal choices. Unless the board is immediately dangerous, opening another pawn often improves future turns.
Count danger precisely
Do not label a pawn merely “safe” or “unsafe.” Count how many rival rolls could capture it, whether a marked safe square is close, and whether your move creates a counter-capture.
Use captures with purpose
A capture is valuable when it delays the leader, opens your route or grants a useful extra action under your household rules. Chasing a distant rival can cost more turns than it saves.
Finish with exact-roll awareness
Near home, spread pawns across different distances. This gives more die values a useful destination and reduces wasted rolls.
