Start with structure, not prediction
No method guarantees a win because the draw is uncertain. Good play means making stronger decisions with the information available: identify existing melds, flexible connectors, isolated cards and the pure-sequence requirement.
Sort the hand immediately
Group cards by suit and rank. Mark completed runs, near-runs and possible sets. A clear hand layout prevents accidental discards and makes it easier to compare two competing plans.
Value flexible cards
Middle cards often connect in more ways than edge cards. A 6 can support 4–5–6, 5–6–7 or 6–7–8, while an ace or king has fewer natural neighbours. Flexibility is useful, but only when it supports a realistic group.
Read the discard pile carefully
Visible discards reveal what has become less available and what opponents may not need. Treat this as evidence, not certainty. Do not hold a bad card only because discarding it might help someone.
Use jokers with purpose
A joker can rescue a difficult group, reduce unmatched points or preserve a nearly completed run. Keep the natural pure sequence separate, then deploy jokers where they create the largest structural improvement.
Know when to abandon a plan
If several turns pass without support, compare the cost of waiting with the value of switching. Strong players release attractive-looking combinations when the remaining cards are too narrow or risky.
