When to use two decks
Two decks are common when several players need enough cards or when a thirteen-card format requires a larger stock. Combine the decks, include the agreed jokers, shuffle thoroughly and state how duplicate cards are treated.
Setup and deal
Deal the required hand size one card at a time. Place the remaining cards as a closed stock and begin one open discard pile. A second deck creates identical cards, so players must arrange groups carefully.
Sets with duplicate cards
A set normally contains equal ranks in different suits. Two identical cards of the same rank and suit do not usually count as separate members of one set. Confirm the exact variant before play.
Do runs need the same suit?
Yes, a standard rummy run or sequence uses consecutive ranks in the same suit. 5♣–6♣–7♣ is a run; 5♣–6♦–7♣ is not. Two decks do not change the same-suit requirement.
Jokers in a larger stock
More jokers increase flexibility, but a pure sequence still excludes substituted jokers in Indian rummy. Use jokers to finish difficult groups after securing the natural run.
Managing a large discard pile
With more cards in circulation, memory becomes less reliable. Track only useful evidence: cards that complete your current plan, repeated ranks, and visible discards that narrow the remaining possibilities.
